With his satirical play “die Kleinbürgerhochzeit” (The Petit-Bourgeois Wedding) Brecht made a direct attack on the false morality, sentimentality and triviality of petty bourgeoisie by portraying a wedding feast that goes embarrassingly wrong – the conversations are dull, the vine couldn’t taste worse, the groom’s mothers nags him about his table manner, the bride is awkwardly trying to conceal her pregnancy and as if this wasn’t enough, the furniture seems to be falling apart.
