The band Gadjé (gadjé is the name used by the French gypsies to talk about non-gipsy) existed as a guitars duo since November 1998. It was created by Loïc Le Guillanton (main composer of the band, born in 1964, who started to learn guitar as an autodidact at the age of 18) and Arthur De la Taille (born 1976; he started learning classical guitar at 14, 1992 he discovered the universe of jazz and gypsy jazz). After four years of cooperation they meet the double bassist Nolwenn Leizour, who learned to play piano at the early age of 7. Ever since they have been performing together as the Trio Gadjé.

The beginning of their story was deeply marked by Django Reinhardt - certainly the most famous gypsy jazz guitarist.

In 2004, they recorded their first CD under the name of Balkadjé.
