The band STRUNE was formed in December 1996. Their music includes Macedonian folk music along with other musical sounds and influences (Balkan, Russian, Israeli, Turkish etc.). The band chose Macedonian music because of its distinctive features (a mixture of Christian and Islamic culture that left its traces in the music) and endless rhythmic possibilities (5/8, 7/8, 9/8, 11/16, 13/8, 25/16…). So far the band recorded two albums and has used them as a springboard to the wider audience.
